It was a quiet, cloudy afternoon when little Monkey Kaka started to feel… not quite right. Her tummy felt funny, and her eyes were a little droopy.
She didn’t feel like running or playing. Instead, she sat curled up on her favorite pillow, arms around her knees, looking small and quiet.
Mom noticed right away.
“Kaka, are you okay?” she asked gently, kneeling beside her.
Kaka shook her head. “My tummy feels weird.”
Without another word, Mom scooped her up and held her close. Her arms were soft and warm, and Kaka leaned into her chest, feeling safer already.
“Let’s get you cozy,” Mom whispered.
She wrapped Kaka in a soft blanket, brought her warm banana porridge with honey, and stroked her fur while humming a lullaby.
Kaka sniffled a little, but slowly began to relax. The porridge made her tummy feel better, and Mom’s hands made all the bad feelings melt away.
Mom gently rocked her in the hammock, back and forth, back and forth, like waves on a calm sea.
“You’re safe now,” Mom said, brushing a strand of hair from Kaka’s face. “Just rest.”
Kaka closed her eyes and let out a tiny sigh of relief.
There was no medicine sweeter than Mom’s love. No blanket softer than her arms. No song more soothing than her voice.
By the time the clouds broke and a little sun peeked through the window, Kaka was fast asleep, peaceful and warm, with the tiniest smile on her face.
Because sometimes, all you really need…
Is someone to care, someone to hold you close, and someone to whisper, “I’m here.”
